Each Hamilton County elementary and middle school student was given one hundred and fifty dollars at the launch of the program, and all new kindergarten students this year are getting a hundred dollars.
The Boyingtons, who sent both of their daughters to Big Ridge Elementary, said they wanted to set an example for others to invest in their community schools.
Shelia Boyington, who also serves on the Future Fund’s board, said, “I hope we are serving as a model for others to understand that even a minor, not a major investment from people in our community, can really impact students very, very personally. Parents too. They’ll learn about the importance of saving for college and how interest can grow your money, and also really encourage students to think about what they want to do after they get out of high school.”
