Bike Tourism in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – Chattanooga played host to a rare event Monday and Tuesday.

Experts in the bicycle industry met at the Chattanooga Public Library to talk about bicycle tourism.

They demonstrated the economic impact of bicycle tourism, and shared their knowledge on rails to trails.

They’re interested in a possible connection between Chattanooga and the Silver Comet and Chief Ladiga Trails.

That’s a nearly 100 mile stretch that includes Smyrna, Georgia and Anniston, Alabama.

Organizers also feel like more trails can connect neighborhoods.

Philip Pugliese, with Outdoor Chattanooga, says, "It’s basically putting the tangable in the intangable that we’ve heard so much about. It’s connecting our great natural resources with the built infrastructure and allowing people to come here, enjoy our natural environment, our city."

The group also held an event in Coolidge Park Monday to talk about Adventure Cycling.
