CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Senator Marsha Blackburn held talks with leaders in the quantum computing industry on Tuesday.

These talks were held with around 40 people at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga’s (UTC) University Center.

Senator Blackburn said that the possibilities being created around EPB’s Quantum Network are endless.

The emergence of AI in addition to quantum computing is something she says the federal government is taking a close look at in the face of rising competition from China.

Sen. Blackburn said, “We need to take these steps that are not only helpful, not only for continued research work, but to the private sector that is going to come up with utilizations that we may use in a D.O.D (Department of Defense) or military application.”

President and CEO of EPB David Wade said the first customers of the Quantum Network should receive access sometime this fall.

He said they are still in the infancy stages of what the network could eventually be capable of.

Senator Blackburn also commented on the latest indictment of former President Donald Trump while in Chattanooga.

She said, “I do support President Trump, and I support his nomination. He is the leader in the Republican primary. I think one of the things that Tennesseans have talked about and what really concerns them is they look at the weaponization of the FBI and the DOJ and they see the two tiers of justice, and they say that is not fair.”
