Blood Assurance in need of donors due to low supply
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Blood Assurance is in a critical need for blood donations.
Late Tuesday evening, a Chattanooga medical facility needed additional units of blood to treat two patients with traumatic injuries. While Blood Assurance was able to provide it, their supply is severely strained.
“We have less than a day’s supply of type O, O-positive and O-negative. We are in critical need of type O, and we are also in critical need of platelets,” said Caitlin Stanley, Blood Assurance Director of Marketing. “We had multiple traumas in our service areas last night that put a strain on the already very critically low blood supply.”
Blood Assurance says they only have enough blood of each type for a one-day supply.
Ideally, they would like to have at least a five-day supply which would need 400 donors a day.
