B’nai Zion Torah Scrolls restored by traveling expert

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – An ancient art traced back to the time of Moses gets restored.
Master scribe Rabbi Yochanan Salazar is working on the B’nai Zion Congregation’s Torah Scrolls.
The scrolls were penned by hand more than 100 years ago.
The Torah is the first five books of the Hebrew scriptures, or Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
Proper writing, maintaining and disposal of Torah scrolls is dictated by dozens of Jewish laws.
Rabbi Susan Tendler of B’nai Zion said, "Rabbi Salazar has built quite a reputation and there are a few different Soferim who came together, a few different scribes who came together and they have this business to provide a service so we tried to catch Rabbi Salazar when he is also going to Atlanta or to another community in this area."
The Chattanooga Area Historical Association hosted Tuesday’s special program.
