Bo Watson will not run for Hamilton County Mayor

The state senator issues a statement on his decision

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Since Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger surprised many by announcing he will not run for re-election next spring, a lot of politicians are giving the race a look.

On Tuesday, State Senator Bo Watson announced he will NOT seek the position.

“Nicole and I are humbled and deeply appreciative of the encouragement we’ve had from our supporters to consider running for Hamilton County Mayor. However, we believe that I can be more effective for my constituents by representing District 11 and continuing to serve in the Tennessee Senate.” – Tennessee State Senator Bo Watson

Mayor Coppinger made his announcement two weeks ago.

He has held the seat for the last ten years.

So far, only Weston Wamp has announced plans to run for the position.

But several Republican lawmakers, both on the County Commission and the state legislature, are said to be considering it.

The election is next May.
