Two boat passengers transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Firefighters got an early start to the day, knocking down a boat fire in the Chickamauga Lock.

Units responded to a call close to 8:15 this morning on Trailhead Drive, and found a burning vessel.

Smoke from the fire could be seen by drivers on Highway 153.

Two people that were in the boat got out and began swimming to safety.

They were picked up by a construction boat in the area.

A fire boat eventually knocked down the flames with a deck gun, and had it pulled out of the lock and into the river to finish extinguishing the fire.

The cause of the blaze is unknown, and the two passengers were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
