Boats destroyed in Hales Bar Marina fire

UPDATE: The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reports that there is a person unaccounted for from the fire.

They brought in divers on Friday to search the water for a possible victim.

They didn’t find anyone, but called off the search early because of extreme weather conditions.

The Sheriff’s Office has secured the scene for now and ask the public to avoid it.

Recovery efforts will resume on Monday morning.

HALETOWN, Tennessee (WDEF) – Witnesses feared the entire marina was on fire last night on Nickajack Lake.

But it didn’t turn out to be nearly that bad.

Firefighters were called to the Hales Bar Marina around 9:20 (CST) Thursday night.

The flames were intense in the dark.

But Haletown firefighters managed to contain the blaze to just one of the docks.

Two large boats were destroyed by the flames.
