Boggs Brothers Enjoy Having Baseball Jersey Numbers Retired at Dalton

Dalton, GA-(WDEF-TV) Always cool to have your high school jersey number retired.
It’s even cooler when you share the honor with your brother.
Mitchell and Matthew Boggs both wore number one for the Dalton baseball team, and they say their old number go in retirement last Friday..
News 12’s Brian Armstrong was on hand for the ceremony.

Said Mitchell:”Really was like, why aren’t you as good as your brother?”

Dalton High School Baseball’s Matthew and Mitchell Boggs were recognized for their baseball careers and had their numbers re retired last week.

Said Mitchell:”He was an incredible player here. So I think for us to share this moment together to me is really special.”

And then have coach Pantonio here as well, who we both played for. Um, it’s just a very cool day. Both were number one during their time at Dalton and World Series champs. Mitchell Boggs says he wore number one because his brother wore it first and better. At Dalton High School, he wore number one, way better than I ever could have.

Said Matthew:”He’s the best player that Dalton High ever had. Mitchell’s pumping me way too much right now.”

A five year age gap impacted how the brothers competed against one another.

Said Matthew:”And with us being as far apart as we were, we did have the sibling rivalries in the house. In the backyard, those types of things. But as far as baseball goes, not a ton because of that age gap.”

Said Mitchell:”I had a lot of expectations to live up to. And like I said, I would not have accomplished or experienced anything close to what I did without the example that I had from Matthew.”

Mitchell also played football but war 11 instead. It will not be retired. Um, that was a lot of fun. I was a football guy and Dalton high football means so much to me.

Said Mitchell:”There’s a few numbers retired at Dalton high for football that deserve to be retired and mine is not one of them.”
