Border discrepancy affects hundreds of Hamilton County voters

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — On the eve before the primaries, the Hamilton County Election Commission addressed a border discrepancy that affected hundreds of voters.

On Monday, Kerry Steelman, the administrator of elections, was informed by state officials that there appeared to be a border discrepancy, which affected 325 voters. On Wednesday morning, election commissioners met to solve this problem.

Steelman says there was a difference between the office of local government and Hamilton County GIS, who is the steward of the mapping for district lines in the county.

On Election Day, those affected voters will be able to vote in a provisional ballot process at the polling site on their registration.

“That will ensure that their ballot is cast, their vote is counted, and no vote will be disenfranchised in this case,” Steelman said.

There were 43 people affected by this who already voted.
