Boy who built nuclear fusion reactor gets tour of Sequoyah Nuclear Plant

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — One gifted 14-year-old boy from Memphis got a tour of the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant on Friday.

Jackson Oswalt is the youngest person to ever achieve nuclear fusion.

He was just 12 years old when he built a reactor in his home.

When officials at the Sequoyah heard his story, they invited him to come for a visit to tour the plant and meet their employees.

“We are currently in the simulator now. So we have had the chance to show him how a nuclear plant operates and let him actually take control and do some things including scramming the reactor,” said Scott Hunnewell, the plant manager.

Jackson says he learned a lot on the tour.

“I am glad they invited me out to see it. It is very interesting. It was a fantastic experience,” Oswalt said.

Plant officials say this is the first time they have given someone so young a personal tour.
