Boyd Buchanan Big Man Caleb Hardaway Sparks the Bucs
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) If you’re looking for a spark in high school basketball, never hurts to have a 6-6 big man.
Boyd Buchanan loves to go to center Caleb Hardaway to give the Bucs some juice.
News 12’s Brian Armstrong catches up with the Bucs big man on campus.
Said Hardaway: “I’m getting offensive rebounds, pushing the ball up the floor, running the transition, just makes it easy.
Said Boyd Buchanan head coach Kenneth White: “He’s an inside force, um, you know, he has a lot of athleticism, you know, he’s a guy that we can throw the ball inside to and kind of get us going.”
At 6’6 he’s a force who fills up the highlight reel.
Said Hardaway: “Probably the one against Brandon, the put-back dunk. It was like, it was electric. We had a lot of fans. Uh, it was just got everybody hyped up at the right time.”
Said White: “he’s able to kind of, you know, come through with a follow through dunk or, uh, get free under the basket for a dunk or whatever to kind of get us going and all that sort of thing.”
His game continues to grow as he has.
Said Hardaway: “He’d be helping me develop, uh, become the best player I can be on and off the court. Best person I can be. And I just, uh, help me find my way around.”
Said White: “Just trying to get him to play as slow as, as slow as possible, uh, play, you know, play fast, but as slow as possible whenever he can to kind of slow things down or whatever the case is, so we can kind of see what the defense is giving them and know how to take advantage of them.”
Hardaway is committed to the game of basketball and despite reaching the state title game in football, Coach Gary Rankin hasn’t been able to convince Hardaway to join the football team.
Said Hardaway: “Ever since I was a freshman, so, uh, I’ve been locked in on basketball though, just staying focused. Yeah, I don’t want to risk any injuries or anything like that.”
