Boyd Buchanan Defensive Line Features a Discus Thrower in Mason Bates
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV)
Boyd Buchanan’s Mason Bates is just a sophomore and he’s already making a name for himself.
Said Bates:”I’ve been playing football since I was four years old. It’s just always been a part of my life. When I’m not playing sports, I feel like there’s something going on. There’s something wrong, really.
Said Bucs head coach Gary Rankin:”He’s a young kid. He’s a sophomore. You know, he’s made a lot of plays for us. He’s an aggressive kid. You know, to be a sophomore and playing like he does right now is a pretty good accomplishment. So we’re looking for good things out of him the next two and a half years. “.
Bates also won a state title throwing the discus last year.
Bates:”I had coach Bailey. When she came in and coached me through it, and it just got to the point where this was my thing. It just became a fun way to get away, and I just happened to get good at it.
Although throwing a discus won’t help him throw a quarterback to the ground.
Said Rankin:”I don’t think there’s a connection. I don’t know. It’s just competing, competing and wanting to be the best. And I think he does that and everything that he does.”
Did he ever want to throw a quarterback like a discus?
Said Bates:”See, that’d be something. That’d be something to watch. That’d be great. ”
