Boys and Girls Club of Chattanooga announces Youth of the Year

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Boys and Girls Club of Chattanooga hosted its teen leadership luncheon on Wednesday to recognize the children they serve.

It took place at the Westin Hotel in downtown Chattanooga.

This year, more than 12 students in Hamilton County were recognized for their academic achievement.

The Boys and Girls Club also awarded one teen the Youth of the Year Award.

“Our mission is to work with kids and help them grow into the person they are meant to be,” said Jim Morgan, CEO of Boys and Girls Club of Chattanooga. “Many of our kids just need a little help along with their education pathways or career pathways. So, we are recognizing the best of the best.”

Jazmine Thomas was named the Youth of the Year at this event.

Thomas will now go on to compete at the state level with more than 20 other students.

Every year, they recognize one teen as the winner of the Youth of the Year award. They determine who wins the award by their academic achievements, regular club attendance, leadership and community service.

The club serves 4,000 Chattanooga children aged six to 18. There are five Chattanooga locations, where they provide sports, recreation, academic enrichment, arts, health and wellness, career development, character and leadership.
