Bradley Central Set to Host Football Dynasty in Maryville
Cleveland,TN-(WDEF) We’ve got a top ten showdown in Class 6A tonight as 8th ranked Bradley Central entertains top-ranked Maryville. Unfortunately for the Bears, they’ll have to face one of the state’s premiere programs without their star quarterback, who went down last Friday against Hardin Valley.
Bradley Central college bound quarterback Cole Copeland will have to watch tonight’s showdown from the bench thanks to a shoulder injury.
Said head coach Damon Floyd:”Well it actually went back to the game before against Dobyns Bennett. He had a separated shoulder. Then took a hit early on Friday night. Just wasn’t able to throw the ball. It’s his throwing shoulder, so he’ll be out for some time.”
Sophomore Dylan Standifer, who played a lot last week against Hardin Valley, will get his first career start at quarterback tonight.
Said Standifer:”I’m definitely mentally ready. Coach Floyd and coach Freeman have done a great job of getting me mentally prepared.”
Said linebacker Hunter Duggan:”Dylan is a good athlete. Good baseball player. Receiver. He’s an athlete. We expect him to step up.”
Said Floyd:”Dylan is a fierce competitor. He’s an athlete. He’s not Cole, but he doesn’t have to be Cole. He just has to manage the game. We’ll just have to rally behind him.”
Gotta be tough starting against Maryville.
The Rebels have been to the state title game every year since 2003, and they have not had two losses in a season since 2009.
Said Floyd:”I think you have to start with Coach Quarles at the top, and then obviously their coaching staff does a great job. I think their players obviously have the ability to play. On top of that, they believe they are supposed to win.”
Said Duggan:”They just don’t mess up. They never hardly get penalties on them. They don’t drop balls. They know their assignments. They do it. They’re just a good football team all around.”
Said Standifer:”They just execute everything so well. They don’t hardly ever make mistakes.”
While Maryville is a dynasty, Bradley Central can’t wait to get’em in the Bears den.
Floyd:”I mean this is why you play the game. We want to play the best teams. We want to see how we match up. We’re not guaranteeing any victories, but I guarantee you we’re going to show up and play, and we’re going to play as hard as we can no matter who the opponent is.”
