Bradley County reports students score above state average on TCAP proficiency

CLEVELAND, Tennessee (WDEF) – Bradley County school leaders say their students are progressing above the state average in several areas following this year’s TCAP tests.

The best results were in the English Language Arts scores.

2nd and 3rd graders increased their English proficiency from 35 to 43 percent over the last four years.

3rd and 4th graders improved from 47 to 52 percent.

The good news is that both the English and math scores have grown faster than the state average for each of the last four years.

The bad news is that only half or less of the students have achieved what the state considers proficiency for their grade levels.

Again, that’s a statewide problem, not just a local one.

In Bradley County, 6th and 8th grade students have now moved beyond the 40% proficiency threshold.
