Bradley County Sheriff’s Office is getting Hairy for No Shave November

Cleveland, TN (WDEF) – A few of the boys in blue are saying so long to their shaving cream and razors, for the next 21 days at least. That’s right, it’s No Shave November!

Usually deputies can’t grow more than a short mustache, but nearly 30 members of the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office now have permission to let their hair hang low. "We’ve just had an overwhelming response," said Janet Conley, with human resources, "The deputies are super excited about having the opportunity to grow some facial hair for once."

To participate, deputies had to make a small donation which was later given to the American Cancer Society.

"We can donate $30 for a beard, $25 for a goatee," said Dennis Goins, Lt. of the Public Safety Unit, "It has to be kept neat, and the goatee has to be kept neat, and we’ve raised about $1,585 so far."

This is the department’s first year joining in on the popular tradition, and certainly won’t be their last. Officials said within the first week they doubled their expected goal.  And at the end of the month, the department will hold a contest for the best beard, which will be voted on by members of the staff and people in the community.
