Brainerd High School celebrating success

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – The summer break is officially over and the start of a new school season has begun in Hamilton County.

The staff at Brainerd High School kicked off the new season with a surprise pep-rally for the students.

"Having a pep rally. Having a red carpet walk. Having the band play. Having the teachers giving the kids high-fives coming through the door is just a positive way to show our student body how excited we are about them being here at Brainerd High School. We have the best students and the best school," said Principal Uras Agee.

Brainerd High has a good reason to celebrate. Last year the school experienced a 17-percent graduation rate increase along with better test scores.

"Last year our Algebra scores were up over 42-percent. Our English scores were up 18-percent. We did well pretty much overall," Agee said.

The principal said he has expectation is to see Brainerd High become one of the elite academic high schools in the area. To do so, he said students will have to be assured that their teachers and their principal is behind them 100-percent.

"It’s your attitude and not your aptitude that determines your altitude so we want to have the right attitude. We want to smile and greet our kids to let them know how excited we are about the new school year," Agee said.
