Brainerd principal addresses Howard game cancellation

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Rivals Brainerd and Howard were scheduled to play Saturday at 5 p.m. in the season opener for both teams.

However, the game at Brainerd High was postponed.

Some thought the cancellation was due to safety concerns.

When speaking with Brainerd executive principal, the following was shared about the event.

“We had plenty of security. We also had A LOT of other things going on. That was one thing we could take off our plates in this moment. Dr. Ware and I made the best decision we could given our understanding of our communities. We’ll work it out for rescheduling,” Dr. Sorrells said.

According to Howard head coach Dedric Maffett, no make-up date has been set yet.
