Buses Carrying Migrants Frequenting Lookout Valley
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) — This morning, police received numerous calls about two buses that were parked next to the comfort inn and suites in Lookout Valley.
The buses were similar to those that stopped in Rising Fawn, Georgia, on Thursday while carrying migrants from Texas.
“It’s my understanding that the state of Texas is sending these individuals to, you know, to larger cities across America — Washington, D.C., New York City. The individuals that CPD questioned did have airline tickets. Many of them were trying to get to the Chattanooga Airport,” said District 1 City Councilman Chip Henderson.
One witness said the buses have been in and out of Lookout Valley for weeks. Another said they’ve been seeing them for months.
An employee at a local business said they’ve seen the buses drop off large numbers of people who don’t know where they are.
“The individuals that were encountered a couple of weeks ago were out, were walking down the sidewalks. They seemed to be trying to find a place to lodge. So, I think, from my understanding, many of them just decide to get off the bus at any point along the ride, wherever they’re going, and I guess, obviously, the bus driver, is just letting the individuals off,” said Henderson.
Friday morning there were two buses. Friday afternoon there was just one. A little after twelve o’clock, two came people came out of the hotel, and drove away, refusing to answer questions.
Police were seen speaking with two people outside of the hotel, but no bus passengers were spotted.
