Chattanooga firefighters battle business blaze in Alton Park

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a reported fire at an Alton Park business around dinnertime on Thursday.

The call came from Metalcasting Minerals Technologies at 3406 Alton Park Boulevard.

Five fire companies responded to the commercial blaze.

Battalion Chief Ashley May said a hopper full of combustible materials and a small area were on fire.

Firefighters opened the hopper’s hatch and applied large amounts of water and foam to the burning coal dust-type material.

Firefighters remained on the scene through 7:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

Battalion Chief May said there was minimal damage to the hopper.

The plant was shut down during and after the fire.

Investigators say the cause of the fire will most likely be ruled as accidental.
