CADAS celebrates 60th anniversary and over $5 million in grants

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Council for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services Celebrates 60th Anniversary with $4.4 million grant from the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and a $600,000 grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency.

This event was also dedicated towards the employees CADAS as they have shown their recognition and support of the center’s crucial role in addressing addiction in our community.

“We work as people with substance use disorders, and in our minds are all diamonds in the rough. Some of them have blemishes and imperfections, but they’re all diamonds in our book, and what you see behind you as a gala, full of all of our employees are diamond polishers that are the best ones in the state,” said Executive Director of CADAS, Paul Fuchcar.

The funding for these grants will be used to construct a 36 bed, inpatient residential unit for women, along with additional 17 sober living apartments.

“Our goal in this is to offer treatment on demand. It’s always been our goal to try and do that for the last 20 years,” said Fuchcar.

Through Paul Fauchers 20 years with CADAS, he remembers the high praise the company received for implementing the first residential units, and now today they will more than double from when they first started.

“They get this tremendous tool to help them stay sober. Once they get sober… they just need one more step. They need a good place to live, and we’re happy to be able to provide that to them,” said Fuchcar.
