Carjacking suspect changes look before court
When the public got its first glimpse of Desiree Hester who is suspected of running over a woman during a carjacking, she had a full head of hair; even in her mug shot, she had a lot of hair. But Tuesday morning in court, she shocked a lot of people including the victim’s family with her new look.
"First thing I saw is that she shaved her head. I knew it was her. I showed my mom the picture and she knew it was her. We’re just amazed that she shaved her head," said Larry McCullough who is the victim’s son.
Hester’s court appointed attorney Erinn Renee O’ Leary won’t comment about her client or her client’s new look, but the victim’s son is wondering if Hester is up to something deceptive to fool the court.
"As we sit and think, We wondered why did she shave her hair off. I don’t know if she thinks that maybe someone can’t identify her since she shaved her hair off but we recognized her immediately,"McCullough said.
Hester’s attorney asked the court to continue the case against Hester for a later date. In the mean time, her alleged victim is preparing for surgery to repair a broken ankle. The victim who asked to remain unidentified said Hester caused serious injury to her ankle after Hester pulled her out of her car then ran over her.
"She had turned around going real fast, swerved over and hit me; ran over my ankle. I fell under a truck and she was gone," the victim said.
Hester was eventually captured in Nashville and brought back to Chattanooga last Thursday. Her booking photo showed her with a head full of hair. But by Tuesday morning, she looked like a totally different person.
Her next court date is April 13.
