Carly Pearce Highlights Heart Condition
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Grammy Award–winning country artist Carly Pearce is helping raise national awareness about recurrent pericarditis, a rare heart condition that is frequently misdiagnosed.
Recurrent pericarditis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the pericardium, the protective lining around the heart, and can cause repeated episodes of sharp chest pain, shortness of breath, and fatigue.
In the United States, an estimated 40,000 people each year are treated for recurring cases, and approximately 20,000 new cases are identified annually.
Because the symptoms can resemble more common conditions, diagnosis is often delayed, which can lead to prolonged discomfort and ongoing medical challenges.
Pearce began experiencing symptoms in 2020 while touring and performing.
After repeated episodes, she was eventually diagnosed with recurrent pericarditis.
Her experience is now helping drive the Life DisRPted campaign, which focuses on improving awareness, supporting earlier diagnosis, and encouraging patients to advocate for themselves if symptoms persist.
Medical experts involved in the campaign emphasize the importance of recognizing repeated chest pain episodes and discussing them thoroughly with a healthcare professional.
