CARTA for vehicle booting ordinance to enforce parking tickets

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- CARTA says they are looking to solve the increasing issue of unpaid parking tickets.

CEO Charles Frazier says they are speaking with the city of Chattanooga about crafting an ordinance that would allow them to boot vehicles after multiple unpaid tickets.

Currently, Frazier says they are unable to do so.

Frazier says that the increasing number of unpaid tickets is causing the agency to lose money.

He said, “What I’m talking about are the people that have 100 or more outstanding tickets. There’s no mechanism for us to resolve that problem, and so a local booting ordinance that would allow us to have some teeth (would allow us to do) what we’re mandated to do, which is two to collect these fees.”

This would have to go in front of the Chattanooga City Council for consideration.
