CARTA pitches airport shuttle to Hamilton County Commission

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Could there soon be a free shuttle between the Chattanooga Airport and downtown?

CARTA CEO Charles Frazier pushed the idea while presenting his budget request to Hamilton County Commissioners.

He is asking the county to invest three hundred and 50 thousand dollars into a pilot program that would operate up to five shuttles for specific events.

Frazier says he believes this is the next step in raising the profile of public transit in Chattanooga.

He said, “This is something that would be attractive to the people coming to Chattanooga. They’re coming here for the outdoors they would love to be able to not ever have a car so getting them downtown once they’re downtown they can utilize our shuttle system gets them to multiple places.”

The commission has until the end of June to define their Fiscal Year 2027 budget.
