Catoosa commissioners discuss SPLOST tax proposal
RINGGOLD, Georgia (WDEF) – Officials in northwest Georgia are weighing the idea of starting a new tax.
This afternoon, commissioners in Catoosa County learned more about the Transportation SPLOST, which is a one penny sales tax on the dollar.
Commissioners say the revenue would be used to fix roads.
Experts came in to talk them about the process of starting the T-SPLOST.
The board of commissioners says this will be good for residents.
Commissioner Steven Henry told us “It will add about $12 million a year to the community. We need to pave about 21 miles a year and it cost about 200 thousand dollars to redo a road.”
The next step is to plan town hall meetings to educate the public about the issue.
If all goes as planned, commissioners say this will be on the March ballot.
