Catoosa County E-911 announces new Logan’s Law database
CATOOSA COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — The Catoosa County E-911 Communications Center has announced the beginning of Logan’s Law database.
This database was put in place to allow Catoosa County E-911 operators to alert law enforcement and other responders of individuals in the home with special needs that could keep them from properly communicating.
Logan’s Law was signed in May of 2021 by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.
The law was inspired by a Georgia teenager with autism and other special needs.
“During an emergency, the safety of our responders as well as that of the general public is our primary concern. Through our Logan’s List database, responders will be made aware of those mental, physical, or neurological conditions before arriving on scene so they can respond appropriately,” says Steven Quinn, the Catoosa County 911 / Emergency Management Director.
Citizens that register family members for this database are helping first responders determine the best form of communication to use when on scene.
It can also help responders know whether they are easily agitated or whether sirens and flashing lights upset them.
To register a family member, you might fill out a two page form. It only takes a few minutes to complete.
Once the form has been completed, the data will be available in the Catoosa County Computer-Aided Dispatch system for operators and first responder personnel to see.
Citizens who register a family member are encouraged to update their information yearly, or as it changes.
