Cats and guinea pigs rescued from overnight duplex fire

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A family’s cats and guinea pigs were rescued from a duplex fire overnight.

The Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) responded to the 1900 block of Rawlings Street at 1:07 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke and popping noises from neighbors.

Upon arrival, crews located a fire in a back bedroom of the residence.

The occupants were not home at the time, but firefighters forced entry and worked quickly to contain the flames.

Several cats and guinea pigs were removed safely from the structure.

According to CFD, no injuries were reported.

However, three adults and a minor were displaced by the fire and will be receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
