Celebrating a Decade of Ironman Competition in Chattanooga

It wasn’t the best day for an Ironman race due to the weather, but the event went on as planned, celebrating 10 years of Ironman competition here in Chattanooga.

Things were a bit different Sunday. Due to the recent weather conditions, the race was held without the swimming portion. Only the biking and marathon segments took place. This decision was made to ensure the competitors’ safety concerning water quality.

Despite this, hundreds of athletes showed up to participate in the big event. The race started at 8 a.m. with the biking competition.

“This brings an energy of health and community. I met people from all over Canada, France, and probably from all 50 states today. Everyone is in great spirits, whether they are here to compete or to support someone who is. It’s truly impactful to look back at your life and check off Ironman—it’s a significant accomplishment and one of the best accolades out there,” said an Ironman attendee Pete Pitts.

There were many different categories, each with its own winners. On the pro side, Sam Long took first place in the men’s division, while Sarah True emerged victorious in the women’s pro division.
