Celebrating Krispy Kreme’s Birthday with a Trip Back Into The Archives

Chattanooga (WDEF) – Krispy Kreme doughnuts was founded 78 years ago today.

The first door opened on July 13, 1937 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Vernon Rudolph bought a secret doughnut recipe from a New Orleans French chef.

Skip ahead 63 years, and our own Chip Chapman tried his luck at the Doughnut business.

For the series "Chip at Work", he hit the doughnut production line on Brainerd Road.

Chip was big on "quality control," but we note that Krispy Kreme didn’t ask him to come back.
