Census: Tennessee median age of 38.6 older than US median

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) – Tennessee is getting older.

New population statistics released from the Tennessee State Data Center show that our citizens are slightly older than the national average.

The fastest growing age group in the state is 65-69 years old.

But there is a large age disparity based on the county you live in.

The oldest County is Tennessee is Cumberland up on the plateau at 50.5 years old.

The youngest median age is 30.5 in Montgomery County which includes Clarkesville and Ft. Campbell.

Here is where our counties in Southeast Tennessee rank on median age, with Meigs as the oldest and Bradley as the youngest.
