Central Ave. in Chattanooga to see road work starting next week
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Starting on November 6, the Chattanooga Department of Transportation will start working on Central Avenue. Their plan is to make the roadway safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers.
The portions of Central Avenue receiving the roadwork will be between East 3rd Street and West Main Street. This will be a total of 1.12 miles of roadway.
CDOT crews will add “safer street crossings,” bicycle lanes, a two-way left turn lane, and on-street parking as needed.
They say the on-street parking is needed to “meet the demands of an ever-growing Southside.”
This is just phase one of the reconfiguration project.
CDOT crews will need to temporarily close some lanes as they work on Central Avenue.
For the first week, CDOT will fully close Central Avenue from East 3rd Street to McCallie Avenue from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. These closures will take place Tuesday through Thursday.
In week two, CDOT will fully close Central Avenue from McCallie Avenue to 11th Street from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. These closures will take place Tuesday through Friday.
And for the third week, CDOT will implement single lane closures of Central Avenue from 11th Street to Main Street. This will take place from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on weekdays.
