Central Moving Veteran Quarterback Ronye Watson to Receiver
Central has made the playoffs the last two years.
And to try and keep the post-season train going, the Purple Pounders made a position change for one of their best players.
The central question for Central. How do you replace stud receiver Donovan Smith? Answer is simple. Slide athletic quarterback Ronye Watson over to wideout.
Said Watson:”Felt like it was necessary for me to go to receiver from quarterback because they needed me at that position. I came to the coaches. I was like I felt like I need to play receiver. Just get the job done there.”
Said Jones:”That’s kind of the thought with Ronye. Getting him out there to kind of replace that number one mentality at wide receiver. It’s just one of those things. Kind of the natural progression of our offense. Just opens up things for us. It allows us to do some more explosive things that we weren’t able to do in the run game the past couple of years.”
Watson was pretty explosive at quarterback, so don’t be surprised if he continues to get a few snaps under center.
Said Jones:”He’s still going to be used at quarterback. Still going to be used as a wildcat quarterback, so we’ve got a lot of tricks up our sleeve.”
Yeah Curt Jones is the tricky type. So coach, who do you think will be your starting quarterback?
Said Jones:”Right now my son Cayden Jones, who is going to be a sophomore. He’s kind of running the ship on that right now.”
Of course you can’t spell championship without the ship, and Jones believes his team has a championship mentality.
Said Jones:”Probably team unity. This is probably one of the closest teams that I’ve had in a long time. These kids really want to go to work for each other. They really want to perform for each other.”
