Central Returns “The Best Weapon in the State”
After two straight seasons of making the playoffs, Central missed out last year with a 4-6 record.
But when you return a player dubbed- “the best weapon in the state”, you’ve got to like your chances of nailing down a playoff berth again.
News 12’s Brian Armstrong has the Central 30-in-30 preview.
Said quarterback Caden Jones:”They’re experienced now. We’ve got the depth. We’ve got the experience. I think it’s going to be a good year this year.”
Central had a rough start to the season last year, but won its last two games by scoring 104 points.
Said head coach Curt Jones:”It’s kind of a continuation of how we ended the season. We finished the season really strong. It has kind of carried over to our off-season workouts, which has carried into our 7-on-7 season. Just really pleased with how the boys have competed.”
One of the players who made the biggest strides was Jones’ son. Quarterback Caden Jones.
Said Caden Jones:”I’ve learned a lot. Learned footwork.”
Said receiver Ronye Watson:”It’s always fun helping him with his mechanics and everything because I played quarterback. So just always helping him and knowing I’ve got that mentality of a quarterback to help my quarterback.”
Both Jones’ will undoubtedly be looking to get the ball in the hands of former quarterback and play-maker Ronye Watson.
Said Caden Jones:”We probably have the best weapon in the state. It’s very easy.”
Said Curt Jones:”When we had Ronye at quarterback, everybody knew where Ronye was. He was a little bit easier to defend. Having Ronye at the slot or at running back. There’s so much more areas we can utilize his skill set.”
Said Watson:”It helps my team because my coach knows I can play anywhere on the field. He has put me in position. Me helping my guys. We have potential to be great.”
