Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV)
The CFC are leaving the NISA league for the most famous soccer league in America.
MLS.
Chattanooga will join the MLS Next Pro league.
It’s billed as a league where you will see the global stars of tomorrow play in the MLS Next Pro today.
Chattanooga is now an MLS town.
Yeah that’s worth celebrating.
Said MLS Next Pro CEO Charles Altchek:”So really excited to be here. We’re honored to be here. It’s a great day for Chattanooga and for MLS Next Pro.
Chattanooga mayor Tim Kelly was one of the original founders of the CFC.
Said Kelly:”Clearly joining this stable, wonderful league. Being able to play a regional opponents again is a wonderful thing. But I think MLS is getting something out of it too. Right? Because this is a truly, genuinely, grass roots, authentic, community club. And God willing it always will be.”
Today’s announcement was quite stunning for the CFC family.
Said CFC general manager Alton Byrd:”But today I can’t tell you how much joy and admiration I have for this club.”
Said CFC head coach Rod Underwood:”Look. The MLS is the most powerful league in America. They have one of the biggest voices. A big voice in world soccer or international football, and I just think it’s so impressive.”
Chattanooga will not be affiliated with a specific MLS team, but instead will play as an independent club in the league.
Said Byrd:”We’ve always been good. I think to go from good to great you play against better teams, which means better opportunities for fans to see high level soccer. We’re now a major league soccer franchise. There’s only 60 of them. There’s 30 in MLS, and 30 in MLS Next Pro. We’re in what I would call vaunted company.”
