CFC Offense “Electric” Over Last Few Games

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Chattanooga FC is the number one team in the NISA East standings, thanks to a dominating stretch of games. The last two weeks alone, CFC has scored nine goals! News 12’s Angela Moryan talked to the Boys in Blue to find out the secret to their recent success.

Angie: “How would you describe this offense in one word?”

Said forward Brett Jones: “Uh, electric? Yeah.”

The power of Chattanooga FC’s offense was on full display in May. The Boys in Blue scored 11 goals in three games — climbing to the top of the table.

Said Jones: “In the beginning, it was a little bit difficult. I think it just took us a while to get used to each other. We had a lot of new guys from a few different teams, a few different areas, and we kind of had to all buy into it. It did take us a minute, and then eventually, we kind of started scoring some goals, making some changes, and now it’s kind of like just flowing with us. It feels good.”

Said forward Taylor Gray: “I think we have a lot of players that have different skill sets, so everyone knows Markus of course. I think he’s had six goals in the last three games, and he can finish from anywhere. And I’m more the guy that likes to get on the ball, run and see if I can finish one, too. But we have so many guys that can do so many things, and the coaches are just putting things together, and it’s working.”

Said Jones: “The guys just love to get in behind. They love to score. They love to shoot, and they’re trying to do all these high level passes, these high level combinations, and it’s working. It’s coming off, and we’re starting to score those types of goals where it’s just easy.”

Easy to rake in the hat tricks, too. Taylor Gray joined Markus Naglestad with a three-goal game against Bay Cities last week.

Said Gray: “I think every team now is looking at certain guys on our team and trying to figure out how to stop them, but we have three, four, five players that could easily be top goal scores in this league. So, I think it’s one of those things that it takes pressure off of each of us when we all can do the job.”

Said head coach Rod Underwood: “I don’t think we’ve seen all the guys that can score goals yet. I think we still have a little more to go.”

Said Gray: “I don’t know, we could have a few guys in double digits by the end of the season, but really we’re just competing against ourselves at this point.”
