CFC Sign Dalton Grad Damian Rodriguez to Unique Pro Contract

Dalton, GA-(WDEF-TV) A lot of players have come from afar to suit up for the CFC.
But the team didn’t have to go far at all to find Damian Rodriguez.
He graduated last spring from Dalton high school, and the CFC signed him to a unique contract.

Damian Rodriguez hit the jackpot Monday.
A pro soccer contract, and scholarship money to attend college at UTC.
Said CFC General Manager Jeremy Alumbaugh:”While he has decided not to play college soccer, he has decided to go to college. And then just take the professional route. This has become more common in the U.S. It has always been common in baseball, but it has become much more common in soccer.”
Said Rodriguez:”My parents always told me soccer isn’t going to be there forever. It’ll end one day so you can an education if it’s something little, so that’s why I pursued my college stuff too.”
Rodriguez was with the North Georgia Soccer Academy when their coach told the CFC to come check out the talent.
Said Rodriguez:”The CFC pro coaches are going to be there. I once never thought anything of it. I just go there and practice and play.”
The CFC thought so much of Rodriguez, they let him train with the team the last two seasons.
Said Alumbaugh:”There’s a saying if you’re good enough, you’re old enough and he has proven that. We saw some things we liked, but then the next step is, can you come in and prove it every day against grown men and pros.”
Rodriguez proved pro ready in his first C-F-C match this summer.
Said Rodriguez:”The first game I played with with the CFC I had an assist so.”
Said Alumbaugh:”Not a bad start.” (laughter)
Later in the season, and Rodriguez added a goal.
Said Rodriguez:”A lot of people think that just because you are from Dalton, you won’t be able to make it to the pros. People think I was dreaming too much, and I’m proving it.”
