CFC Women Happy Team is Back in Action This Season
Chattanooga-CWDEF-TV)The CFC women are back on the pitch this season for the first time since 2018.
It’s been a rush to say the least.
The team came together quickly for their 8 game regular season in the WPSL.
Randy Douglas was hired as the CFC head coach on April 6th. At the time, CFC had no players, and their first match was May 22nd.
Douglas:”You know going in, and you’ve got eight matches, and you’re thinking what if we finish 0-8. (chuckles) Because that has to cross your mind.”
Said CFC player Ana Silva:”We had the tryout and then a couple of practices and then we had our first match.”
Reporter:”Wow I mean that had. Did you even everybody’s name for that first match?”
Said Silva:”I know it was crazy. I was just learning them, and we played a team that has been playing each other forever, so it was a crazy transition.”
Said CFC player Anna Lanter:”We knew that it was going to be a challenge coming into it because we were so knew, but it was also one of those things where it was like hey, we are happy to just have a club right now.
And the team is even happier with their fan support.
Said Lanter:”I think for our first game we had over 800 people come out, and it’s like for a women’s game in Chattanooga, that’s huge. It is incredible because other teams come here, and they basically look at the stadium, and we see them taking pictures, and it’s like Finley is something to brag about. Our atmosphere is something to brag about, and we want to continue that.”
At least Coach Douglas’ worst fear did not come true.
CFC beat North Alabama on June 4th.
Said Douglas:”The match that we won a couple of Saturdays ago was a dream night. Really. I think all of us kind of look back at that, and like you know, it wasn’t just the highlight of the summer. I think that’s been a highlight for a lot of us in our soccer careers to having something like that happen.”
