CFC’s Markus Naglestad a Free Kick Assassin

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The shot making skills of soccer star David Beckham earned him the famous nod…’Bend it like Beckham.
The CFC’s Markus Naglestad might need his own moniker as well, given his free kick precision. Maybe ‘Needle it like Naglestad’.
He delivered another doozie over the weekend, and News 12’s Brian Armstrong captured the moment.

Markus Naglestad rescued a point for Chattanooga FC when he scored a gem of a freekick goal in the 90th minute on saturday.

Said Naglestad: “Maybe it wasn’t like the best free kick I’ve ever hit, but it was definitely one that meant a lot.”

It not only led to a tie, it also led to a hug of a celebration.

Said Naglestad: “the euphoria of the moment. And it was just a huge moment of relief, I think, for everyone. And it certainly wasn’t planned.I kind of ran around and, like, obviously super excited, and I saw him reaching out his arms.It was just sort of like, all right, obviously a huge embrace because it was moment.I met a lot for not only us,too, but the whole club in general.”

Said head coach Rod Undewood: “I think you kind of lose your mind when you’re in with that high level of emotion because you don’t really think about much.We prepare a lot, but with my faith, it’s like, okay,God, what is going to happen is going to happen. So I’m always surprised, like, what the outcome is, because it’s like, I don’t really worry about the outcome. What it’s going to be is going to be,and then we get that favor that feels good. Then you just let it really happen, not expecting it to happen.”

Markus has multiple goals this season from freekicks, and as he explains, it’s a very technical process that requires power and placement.

Said Naglestad: “Just finding that little window where you think you might not be able to get to, and then it’s just getting power, accuracy and a bit of dip and curve, and then just hope that it’s enough.”

Said Underwood: “In the back of your mind, okay, if we get this moment, maybe he’s going to do it this time. But the numbers are really crazy because it’s only like2%, and he’s been pretty good thus far,

And it’s something he has been working on his whole life.

Said

Naglestad: “Since I was a kid, I’ve been putting in a lot of hours.”
