CFD adds Ladder 21 to station

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) has added Ladder 21 to its station, allowing for more coverage and services to be provided for the community.

Ladder 21 now makes the facility a two-company station.

City Council members approved the Chattanooga Fire Department’s request to purchase a $1.8 million 107-foot Smeal ladder truck earlier this month.

Fifteen firefighters are now assigned to that fire station to staff the additional truck.

The additional truck and personnel at Station 21 are the result of funding from the FY26 budget amendment that was passed by City Council in September.

“Today marks a proud and historic moment for our department as we officially place Ladder 21 in service. This new ladder company fills a critical need in the East Brainerd and Hamilton Place communities—improving our response times, strengthening our coverage, and enhancing our ability to protect lives and property,”

Chattanooga Fire Chief Terry Knowles said.

Station 21 is already home to an engine company, as well as a water tanker truck.
