CFD responds to large residential fire overnight in St. Elmo
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) responded to a large house fire Saturday night.
CFD said they were dispatched to the 4300 block of St. Elmo Avenue at 11:15 p.m.
When personnel arrived on scene, they discovered heavy smoke coming from the home.
It was determined the fire was coming from the basement.
Crews began an interior attack but quickly realized the fire was venting out the right side of the structure.
Due to unsafe conditions, crews used a defensive strategy to put out the flames.
Crews were on the scene for over five hours containing the blaze.
The residence was empty as it was undergoing renovations.
No injuries resulted from the fire.
The cause is still under investigation.
