CFD to hold groundbreaking on new fire station
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Fire Department announced on Tuesday that they are preparing to break ground on a new fire hall.
This will replace the old fire hall which CFD says is 63 years old.
The groundbreaking will happen on Thursday at 1 p.m., at 912 Shallowford Road.
According to CFD, the new Station 15 will provide enhanced service to the Eastdale community.
The current station is obsolete and too small for conditions, the fire department said.
The more than $4 million project will create a two-bay station, at 9,500 square feet. CFD said it will include a kitchen, living area, sleeping rooms, showers, locker rooms and a gym.
The fire department also said they have been advocating for a new station for years. They accredit Mayor Tim Kelly’s administration for funding the project.
During construction, all those who work at Station 15 will temporarily relocate to Station 6 on Bonny Oaks Drive.
“We are thrilled to see the Station 15 project moving forward and we are so grateful for the support from our city leaders,” said Chattanooga Fire Chief Phil Hyman. “It will create a much better working environment for our firefighters, and it is what the CFD needs as we look to the future of our department and our city.”
