Chatsworth man sentenced to 7 years in prison for cyberstalking

CHATSWORTH, Ga. (WDEF) — A man from Chatsworth faces sentencing from two separate cyberstalking cases. Alex Scott Roberts, 27, will get 85 months in federal prison.

Roberts stalked two sisters in California. He threatened the two with rape and murder. The Department of Justice said Roberts used text messages and other internet communications to stalk and threaten the sisters.

The DOJ said Roberts threatened to send the victim’s nude photographs, threatened to rape her and her sister, and threatened to kill her and her family.

They also said he created a Craigslist listing of a room for rent in one victim’s house. Roberts encouraged renters to “stop by anytime.” He sent anonymous messages to the victim, her sister and at least one friend.

United States District Judge André Birotte Jr. called Roberts’ actions “egregious.”

Roberts pleaded guilty in August for two counts of stalking. He has been in custody since 2020.

In June 2020, Roberts sent numerous threatening messages to a 15-year-old girl.

The DOJ said Roberts claimed to have images of the minor and threatened to release them. He continuously harassed her through text message and Instagram.

Prosecutors made the following statement on Roberts’ behavior:

“Only a few months after being paroled on state prison sentences related to stalking and extorting young women online…Roberts…began tormenting new victims. His messages traumatized the victims, putting them in fear for their lives and the lives of their family.”
