Chatt Prep Back in Murfreesboro For Another Crack at a State Title
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The boys high school state basketball tournament tips this week in Murfreesboro.
Chatt prep is back for another crack at the 1A state crown.
The Sentinels carry a 12 game winning streak into their quarterfinal match-up Wednesday against Union City.
Chatt Prep had a coaching change this year, but hardly anyone noticed the change.
Christian Collins took over for his twin brother Christoffer Collins.
Said junior Tashuad Williams:”A lot of people get confused. Even my own momma gets the coaches confused.”
Momma always says people confuse twins.
Said Christian Collins:”More coaches were coming up to me after the game. Like hey coach, something is different. You didn’t say too much today. Well I’m not him. I’m the other twin.”
Said junior Eli Gaines: “When we look at them, we think one is the other sometimes. Even though they’ve got the same hair cut, and the same look and everything. They keep a little lollipop in their mouths too to get the calms down. Sometimes you really can’t tell the difference unless they speak and how they talk.”
Just like his brother, Christian has the Sentinels returning to the state tournament for the second straight year.
Said Christian: “The confidence level is sky high right now. Just the confidence that we have built over the course of the season, which is going to help us triumph and try to bring this gold ball back to Chatt.”
Complete the mission. Chatt Prep made the Final Four last year.
To win it all, they plan to hunker down on defense.
Reporter: “How tough is Chatt Prep’s defense?”
Said Williams: “It’s definitely tough. When we are locked in and disciplined on defense, we are very hard to beat.”
Said Gaines:”If you can get past our defense, then you win the game, but I don’t think anybody can get past our defense for real. For us we are a defensive team that turns into offense, so when our defense gets going, our offense is going to.”
Hard to believe, but once again, there are no seniors on this team, just like last year.
Said Christian Collins:”Right now I think our grit. Our determination is definitely going to help us succeed to try to bring this gold ball back to Chattanooga.”
