Chattanooga agencies push for multi-use greenway in I-24 expansion plans
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Local organizations are pitching the idea to add a multi-use greenway system to the side of I-24.
The Chattanooga Department of Transportation (CDOT), Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors (CPO), Outdoor Chattanooga, and Lookout Valley Greenway Alliance are all advocating for the expansion.
This would be apart of the potential I-24 expansion projects.
According to CPO, the proposed path would be situated at the base of Lookout Mountain and Moccasin Bend.
This proposed multi-use greenway system would connect the Lookout Valley community to areas such as St. Elmo, Alton Park, North Chattanooga, etc.
CPO says this proposal comes as TDOT is currently conducting preliminary studies for potentially widening I-24 from Chattanooga west along the Tennessee River Gorge to the I-59 interchange in Dade County.
