Chattanooga Airport to add new nonstop flight
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Airport is bringing a new nonstop flight with funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The new flight will either be to Denver, Colorado or Houston, Texas.
The Chattanooga Airport received a $750,000 Small Community Air Service Development Program grant. This is the first time this airport has received this grant since 2005.
“Air connectivity is critical to maintaining a prosperous and resilient local economy, which is why I have been a huge advocate for the improvements and additional air services coming to the Chattanooga Airport. People want to fly in and out of Chattanooga, and I’m committed to helping unlock that latent capacity and to making the strategic investments necessary to accommodate the growth we’re seeing in our city and region,” said Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly. “I am thankful for the support of the Department of Transportation and for the great work of the Chattanooga Airport in securing this grant.”
To qualify for this grant, the Chattanooga Airport had to be classified as a small hub airport. They also had to have insufficient air carrier service.
Supporters raised more than $375,000 for this service expansion, the airport said in a press release. In addition, the Chattanooga Airport has now received a total of over $1 million in support of a new nonstop flight destination.
