Chattanooga Airport to have required incident drill on Wednesday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Those headed to the Chattanooga Airport on Wednesday should not be alarmed if they see emergency vehicles on site. The airport is having their required full-scale aircraft incident drill.

The drill will start at 9 a.m. The airport said this will not affect any flights.

The Chattanooga Airport conducts one of these drills every three years.

It will simulate an aircraft accident, and emergency responders will arrive from Chattanooga and Hamilton County areas.

According to the airport, the drill’s purpose is to test the airport’s capabilities and local emergency response agencies. It is to prepare them incase an actual accident was to occur as well.

Personnel will test communications, fire and police response, emergency medical response, hospital mass casualty plans, interagency coordination and the incident command system.

They will prepare a disaster scenario involving multiple casualties. It also requires participants to treat the exercise as if it were a real-life situation.
