Chattanooga begins paving South Holtzclaw Avenue
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The first road paving of the year for Chattanooga begins Monday, January 29. South Holtsclaw Avenue from East 23rd to Bailey Avenue is where the paving will happen.
Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly announced this the project Monday morning on South Holtzclaw in front of the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The full project will last around five days.
Holtsclaw will be reduced to three lanes.
The speed limit will also be reduced from 40 mph to 35 mph.
Yet this repaving means more than fixing a road.
“This is very special today. Thank you, mayor, for moving it up in the priority list. South Holtsclaw is the last Chattanooga road that us veterans will take as we are laid to rest here in Chattanooga National Cemetery. The re-pavement, the smoothness… to veterans it shows a level of respect,” said Mickey McCamish.
Roads in north Chattanooga, Hixson and East Brainerd will also be repaved in 2024.
