Chattanooga comes together for “Giving Tuesday”
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- In the midst of all the tragic events surrounding the Tennessee Valley lately, there is still a spirit of giving.
“It’s a Global Day of Giving, it’s the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. You’ve got Black Friday, then it’s Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday all about buying Christmas presents and the idea of Giving Tuesday it’s about the getting back to the roots about what the holiday season is about which is giving back and focusing on the community,” said Gabby Garrison.
This is the second year that United Way and Causeway have sponsored “Giving Tuesday locally here in Chattanooga and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
From the mountain fires, to the Woodmore Bus Tragedy, and to the recent Williams Street Fire this community has seen it’s fair share of trouble.
Yet, Causeway tells News 12 that they have already surpassed last year’s mark of 100,000 dollars and are expecting it to climb.
We are checking in with the nonprofits every couple hours and having them report back to us where they are at, but you know frankly that’s not all of them reporting. It’s only the one who are self-report so far and that doesn’t include all the restaurants who are on board, so I’m feeling good about hitting the quarter million mark.
“There is a lot of need in this community, but there is a lot of very generous and hard working people who are all about pulling together and giving and working to help others and so that what makes an event like this so great and it what makes Chattanooga as a city and a community so great,” said Kelley Nave.
